INCREDIBLE hidden gem we found when we just happened to be near Wakefield! Don’t be fooled by the small space, this museum is jam packed with one of a kind or otherwise extremely rare artifacts. We did a guided tour with Ken who was just so knowledgeable and showed us many highlights in a sea of fascinating history. My favorite was a captured German pistol his own father brought back from his service in Europe in WW2. We spent about an hour and fifteen minutes there, but you could easily spent double that exploring all the pieces there. Can’t recommend enough!!
This museum has tons of WWII artifacts that you will enjoy. It gives you a full picture of what was used during the war. They also have photo albums that were donated by some of the soldiers themselves. Those pictures showed where the soliders were stationed at. All amazing. Highly recommend l
This is a truly impressive hidden gem. If you have any interest in WWII history, or think you might, check it out. Ideally, if they aren't too busy, hopefully you can get a guided tour, which makes it 20x better. Fascinating collection. In a traditional museum this would cover 20000 sf, but here, it is artfully crammed into a much smaller space.
A must for anyone remotely interested in WW2. It has just about every authentic uniform on display used by Americans, British, Russian, Japanese and German. The same goes for light weapons. A mini library is packed with every WW2 book imaginable. There are also some extremely rare items which are labeled in red, you will have discovered that for yourself. Everything is scattered within designated theaters of war. If you plan to look at everything in detail including reading letters and scrapbooks, expect 2-3 hours. If you are just browsing, perhaps 45mins - 1 hour.
What an unexpected treasure. The shear volume of the collection and information given is exceptional. Dont expect to be in and out. There is so much to see and absorb. All theatres are covered. Great place and well worth a visit.
