Husband-and-wife owners dish on bringing traditional Chinese fare to South Kingstown.
The story behind South Kingstown restaurant Jayd Bun starts with love.
Now married with a baby daughter, Annie and Joe Parisi met by chance in October of 2014 while each was on vacation in Las Vegas. At the time, he was working as a Pit Boss at Foxwoods and she was a tour guide in Beijing. Soon after, Annie followed her heart and moved from her native China to Connecticut to be with Joe. Very soon after she started to miss the food from her home in Tianjin, China and couldn’t find anything close to it anywhere. So Annie started to cook more and more at home to enjoy the food she ate her entire life. She started learning and creating new recipes to cook. She then traveled back to China and went to a cooking school to learn more. Annie & Joe opened JAYD BUN in October of 2019 and the rest is history.
By far the best place around to eat! Everything was top tier quality food! Can’t find it anywhere else. Area is beautiful, restaurant with outdoor seating was beautiful! The food I still can’t believe how good and tasty it all was. Joe and his family restaurant are amazing kind/friendly environment! Do keep in mind that you have to order ahead of time if you don’t want to wait. Respect that they are only ones around and they are extremely busy but 100% worth any wait any day! Go get you some Buns!
Been wanting to come here months with my girlfriend. We personally left a little underwhelmed. -Buns were delicious. We both ordered the pork. -Noodles were just okay. I got the JAYD noodles and she got the Peanut Butter noodles. Mainly giving three stars was because for the planning of making the special trip to get JAYD due to long wait times, and the cost of about $80 for these items, we left a bit underwhelmed. If I was in the area and it was easy to stop in and get the buns, I would. Will say we got to try them. Staff were very nice.
According to Yelp this is the second best Chinese restaurant in the country. The buns were delicious, everything else was okay, I was the only one who ate their whole meal out of the three of us. There are much better options in Flushing and Quincy which is about the same distance from our house. If you go here definitely call ahead to place your order, since everything is cooked to order.
Food and service was awesome, well worth the ordering in advance and the drive up there to get it. The veggies buns had a rich flavor and a soft chew dough. The noodles where bouncy and tender and the congee was hands down the best I have had in the state.
Personally I didn’t think they delivered up to all the hype. I was so excited to try and called ahead due to the long wait. Still waited an additional 30 min after promised time. Not sure if it was because I did not eat my food there, but it took an hour and a half to get home and I found the noodles were stuck together and soggy, and the buns had some type of a texture that I still can’t pinpoint maybe just a little too bready for me The flavor of the buns I got the pork buns were really good so the meat was nice and tender, but unfortunately, the noodles didn’t have much flavor to them at all. We got two different types to try them. They have a small little picnic table in the back where you can eat, but the atmosphere is nothing crazy I’m not sure if eating the food right there when you get it would be any different But I can say at least I tried it
