We visited Captain Jack's for lunch, drawn by the beautiful marsh/ocean setting. The experience was disappointing due to staffing challenges and inconsistent food quality.
Only two waitresses were working a full dining room (around 70 people). While the service pace was surprisingly good considering the heavy traffic, the immense pressure on the staff was noticeable, occasionally resulting in curt responses that felt a little unwelcoming.
On the food side, quality was highly variable:
* The Shrimp was excellent—the definite highlight.
* The lobster was slightly overcooked and tough.
* The crab cakes were poorly executed; they seemed like fried dough balls with almost no crab meat or flavor.
* The corn was overcooked and mushy.
* The clam chowder was thin, lacking both clams and proper thickness.
* Dessert was also off: the apple crisp apples were hard, and the topping was in large, chunky pieces.
Overall, it's an okay lunch at best. The kitchen and front-of-house need significant support and quality control to match the beautiful location.

Now managed by a third generation, this family owned restaurant is a must stop. The clam cakes are crispy, the fries are perfect and clam chowder is available RI or NE style. Save room for dessert, they have a great selection. Seating on the patio offers a view of the marsh and is not overcrowded.
The staff is amazing, warm, friendly and attentive. This was my first visit and I will be sure to return. If you’re lucky, March to the end of July, “Atticus” the Osprey can be seen on the nest atop the restaurant sign!

The fish and chips were excellent! Get the special if they have it with clam chowder and clam cakes. The New England chowder is not as thick as I'm used to, it was more like a broth but tasty. The swordfish was on the smaller side but also very good.

Cap'n Jack's is located in walking distance to East Matunuck Beach. The restaurant offers inside, outside, and take out dining. The outside dining has a view of the salt marsh and wildlife. The food and desserts are very tasty. The service was friendly and the food came out to us quickly. The restaurant could use a bit of an update, but overall very nice experience.

Looking for a place to eat that would have food items other than fish for my friend.
Let me 1st say, the staff were really nice. Ordered a specialty cocktail, bad decision. Ugh. sorry
The food? Frozen calamari, flavourless! (no thanks!) Pizza tough like the bottom of my shoe. Total utter disappointment. Only paid for our drinks, I asked for a mudslide after the cocktail I sent back.and pizza. How much can you say, Everything was awful. They also took off calamari on our bill. Still shelled out $50 not worth it.
