Nana’s is a multi-generational family business that has become a local staple in Narragansett.
Nana's Ice Cream was founded in 1985 at Narragansett Beach by the Wright Family.
In 2006, the Mann Family purchased Nana’s.
Who is Nana?
At the helm is mom and Nana, Dianne Mann. She retired from crazy corporate world after a 30 year career in finance. Scooping cones sounded like a fun retirement gig but little did she know that running one of the most popular beach shops would be madness.
In 2009, Nana’s expanded to Galilee, where the Block Island Ferry tourists frequented.
In 2011, Dianne added Nana's Candy Bar with walls of nostalgic candy, saltwater taffy and fudge located right next door to Nana's Ice Cream at Narragansett Beach.
As an ice cream connoisseur all I can say is that I am extremely pleased with the quality of this establishment. I was able to try every flavor twice. They even opened early for some guy once. I didn’t even get any ice cream. I bought a giant gummy worm. Haven’t tried it yet? I would consider licking on their fine gelato or even a divine ice cream cone. Overall as pictured we were clearly very happy with this product.
Not Family-Friendly – No Samples, No Exceptions We spent over $65 here with our six children (four under 12), and were shocked to find out they don’t offer samples. Two of our kids didn’t like their flavors but ate them anyway because we didn’t want to waste what we’d just paid for. When we asked, they said they stopped offering samples during Covid… but it’s 2025. A simple policy like two samples per person would be fair. This isn’t about health anymore—it’s laziness and greed. For a place that markets to families and charges premium prices, they should be more accommodating. We won’t be back.
I’ve never had gelato, and I wanted to try a flavor before buying since everything is expensive. The worker said they don’t let you try it anymore “since Covid”. Small disposable spoons don’t seem like a health hazard. I haven’t been to an ice cream store that doesn’t allow you to sample the flavors. Seems a little greedy, especially since I spent $40+.
Such a great selection and the candy store is so adorable and loaded w delicious treats...
Unfortunately I think l maybe we were late in season. I had chocolate cookidough and it tasted freezer burn dough no taste in the ice-cream. ,maybe next time
