Found on accident while on vacation and it was the best part of my vacation. My grandfather served in the 2nd World War and I wish I had known about this place while he was still alive. It's absolutely incredible! The quantity and quality of the exhibits is astounding. From original maps, uniforms, weaponry of all kinds and obscure OSS gadgets to a original Norden Bombsight. The artwork. It's impeccable. If you value history and the legacy of the Greatest Generation this place is a bucket list item to visit.
What an incredible experience going to the museum. So much to see...it doesn't look very big from outside, but once you get inside wow! There's just so much to see! It's literally from floor to ceiling. If you really want to learn a lot take a guided tour. Our guide Thomas was so knowledgeable, and friendly and just plain passionate about all things WW2. All the staff there truly cares about making sure you get the most of your time there. I can't say enough good things about our trip there. It's exciting, it's educational, and some parts are somber and powerful. I'd definitely go again because I'm sure there's some things I missed. I highly recommend a visit!
INCREDIBLE hidden gem we found when we just happened to be near Wakefield! Don’t be fooled by the small space, this museum is jam packed with one of a kind or otherwise extremely rare artifacts. We did a guided tour with Ken who was just so knowledgeable and showed us many highlights in a sea of fascinating history. My favorite was a captured German pistol his own father brought back from his service in Europe in WW2. We spent about an hour and fifteen minutes there, but you could easily spent double that exploring all the pieces there. Can’t recommend enough!!
I found this museum because a family member from overseas asked to visit a World War II museum, and we were very happy to have found it! Our docent, Thomas, was not only friendly and offered us a tour of the well-organized collection, but was full of balanced information and perspectives about different aspects of the war, and eagerly answered all of our questions. We could not have asked for a more prepared docent, or a more interesting collection—there is plenty to occupy the studious visitor for days if not weeks. Thank you to the Foundation and volunteers for making the exhibition available to the public!
A must for anyone remotely interested in WW2. It has just about every authentic uniform on display used by Americans, British, Russian, Japanese and German. The same goes for light weapons. A mini library is packed with every WW2 book imaginable. There are also some extremely rare items which are labeled in red, you will have discovered that for yourself. Everything is scattered within designated theaters of war. If you plan to look at everything in detail including reading letters and scrapbooks, expect 2-3 hours. If you are just browsing, perhaps 45mins - 1 hour.
